Salt Cay: Spring Break

Porter's Island Thyme on Salt Cay will be closing Friday, May 4th until Wednesday, May 30, 2012.

Not only will this give us time to complete a number of projects that are underway at Island Thyme, but will allow for some much needed rest and relaxation.

It was a great season...thanks to everyone who visited Salt Cay!

Properties we manage will still be available for rental on Salt Cay as our team will be on island.

We are setting off to discover the latest food trends and things we can bring back to Salt Cay for next season.

Personally I hope the tamale lady still has her stand on the Plaza de Armas, the Pelican Club is as good as we remember it, smoked trout is still on the menu at the Inca Grill, the oysters are fresh and the crawfish spicy, Mothers is still open, and the alpaca steak is just as delicious!

New Contest on Salt Cay!

The "Season" on Salt Cay is winding down and as it does we are making plans for next year.  We anticipate will be even better!

Most know of Porter's Island Thyme Hot Sauces...both the Mango and the Habanero.  Next season we will be introducing a new Hot Sauce and we need your help!

Provide us the the name for our new Hot Sauce and you will Win a two night stay at Castaway...Salt Cay and a complementary dinner for two at Porter's Island Thyme.

Everyone who has spent much time on Salt Cay knows about Sallina Sally.

It is told that our lovable Salt Cay Salina Sally is often seen at night moving from the main salina on Salt Cay to the "blue hole" in the south creek or on rare occasions is seen crossing Victoria Street to reach the ocean from the salinas.

Is Salt Cay Salina Sally related to Nessie?

Many people have had encounters with Salt Cay Salina Sally, either while riding their bike or taking their golf cart home through the "middle ground", on their way to their accommodations in the South District of Salt Cay... some comical and others more serious.

This Thanksgiving we were thankful for all the support and patronage you have given us through the years.  After a family American Thanksgiving in Florida I am heading back to Salt Cay in the Turks & Caicos more enthusiastic than ever.

We are excited and pleased to be associated with Crystal Seas Adventures (www.crystalseasadventures.com) and look forward to assisting Crystal Seas in marketing their new venture.

We have finalized our "events" for the Holidays at Porter's Island Thyme beginning with the Salt Cay Children's Pizza Party on Friday, December 23.  The Party will be from 12:00-2:00 PM and we are bringing back the parties of olde that many will remember from Mt. Pleasant Guest House and the days of Bryan Sheedy, the founder of tourism on Salt Cay.

Christmas Dinner is by reservations only on December 25 starting at 7 PM.  Reservations must be made by December 18 for this annual event. 

The menu features:

Shrimp & Crab Gumbo or Lobster Bisque

Southern Pecan Salad

Prime Beef Kabobs or Duck Breast Grand Marnier

Profiteroles filled with homemade ice cream topped with chocolate sauce or raspberry puree

Complimentary:  Glass of Champagne or Red Wine

Cost:  $65/person ++

New Year's Eve at Porter's Island Thyme has gotten quieter as we all have gotten older...it is not the raucous party of days gone by.  Dinner will begin at 7 PM and typically wraps up by 10 PM.  For those who want to party and to dance the night away there is always the Coral Reef Bar & Grill. 

Reservations are required by December 26.

Salt Cay: Movie Mania

Will it be romantic like "Bahama Passage"?  Will it be a musical like "South Pacific"?  Will it be an adventure like "The Beach"?

Filming of the first full length feature film since the 1940's epic "Bahama Passage" will be shot on Salt Cay this November.  Film crew, actors and actresses from Europe and their entourage will be arriving on Salt Cay early in the month for several weeks.  This provides a unique opportunity to watch, or possibly be an extra in the production of a full length feature film by a world renowned director.
